Instruct athletes to stand between two cones and wait for coach to roll or bounce a small ball towards the athlete. Instruct the athlete to drop the hips and come down to stop the ball from getting past the athlete (out of athletic position). Set up cones in a square. Use baseballs or solid whiffle balls. Roll and/or bounce balls to the athlete so that it is a bit challenging to adapt to the ball while dropping the hips to make the stop. Focus on the athlete’s hip drop. Hips should be as close as possible to the ground. Athlete can attempt to stop a ball with one hand only if athlete has shown the skill level to do so.
