Instruct athletes to stand at the cone in an “athletic position.” Athletes should stand with feet at about shoulder width apart with hips “hinged” with shoulders and knees over the toes. The best way to get athletes to get in this position is to ask the athlete to take a step and then hop and land on both feet. Athletes will typically land in an “athletic position.” This is a key drill to help athletes understand to be in a “ready” position to begin any athletic movement (fielding, running, catching, hitting).
